CROCHET BRAND NEW DESIGN Square Motif Coaster Runner, Shawl, Blouse Pattern

I’d be happy to help you create a new crochet square motif pattern that you can use for coasters, runners, shawls, blouses, or other projects. Here’s a basic crochet pattern for a square motif. You can use this as a starting point and modify it to create your own unique design:

Materials:

  • Worsted weight yarn in your choice of color
  • Appropriate-sized crochet hook for your yarn (usually recommended on the yarn label)
  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends
  • Scissors

Stitches Used:

  • Chain (ch)
  • Slip Stitch (sl st)
  • Single Crochet (sc)
  • Half Double Crochet (hdc)
  • Double Crochet (dc)
  • Treble Crochet (tr)

Pattern:

  1. Start with a magic ring (or chain 4 and join to form a ring).
  2. Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), work 2 dc into the ring, ch 2, 3 dc into the ring, ch 2 – Repeat * to * three more times. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the starting ch-3. (4 groups of 3 dc)
  3. Round 2: Slip stitch into the next two stitches, slip stitch into the ch-2 space. Ch 3 (counts as first dc), work 2 dc into the same ch-2 space, ch 2, 3 dc into the same ch-2 space (corner made). 3 dc into the next ch-2 space, ch 2, 3 dc into the same ch-2 space (corner made). Repeat * to * in each ch-2 space around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the starting ch-3. (8 groups of 3 dc)
  4. Round 3: Slip stitch into the next two stitches, slip stitch into the ch-2 space. Ch 3 (counts as first dc), work 2 dc into the same ch-2 space, ch 2, 3 dc into the same ch-2 space (corner made). 3 dc into each of the next two ch-2 spaces, ch 2, 3 dc into the same ch-2 space (corner made). Repeat * to * around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the starting ch-3. (12 groups of 3 dc)
  5. Continue to increase the number of rounds by working the same pattern, increasing the number of 3 dc groups between the corners. You can make your square motif as large as you want by repeating round 3 with more increases.
  6. To finish, cut the yarn, fasten off, and weave in any loose ends with a yarn needle.

You can adjust the size of your motif by adding more rounds or using a different weight of yarn and corresponding hook size. To create different designs for coasters, runners, shawls, or blouses, you can experiment with different colors, stitches, and combinations of motifs. Feel free to get creative and make your design unique!
