Skill Level: Easy

Finished Size (Approximate):

  • Flower Diameter: Approximately 2.5 – 3 inches (6.5 – 7.5 cm)
  • Leaves: Approximately 1.5 inches (4 cm) long
  • Size can vary slightly based on yarn, hook, and tension.

Materials You’ll Need:

  • Yarn: Small amounts of DK weight (Light Worsted / 8 ply) yarn in two colors.
    • Color A (Flower): Your chosen flower color (e.g., pink, red, yellow).
    • Color B (Leaves): Green yarn.
    • Any smooth acrylic or cotton yarn will work well.
  • Crochet Hook: E/4 (3.5 mm) or size needed to obtain a firm fabric.
    • A slightly smaller hook than recommended for your yarn weight will help the flower and leaves hold their shape better.
  • Tapestry Needle: For weaving in ends.
  • Scissors

Gauge (Not Critical, but Aim for a Firm Fabric!):

Since this is a small decorative item, exact gauge isn’t crucial. However, aim for a fabric that is firm and without large gaps to ensure your flower and leaves hold their shape nicely. If your stitches are too loose, go down a hook size.

Let’s Crochet Your Beautiful Flower!

This flower is made by working a central ring and then creating petals around it. The leaves are crocheted separately.

Part 1: The Flower (Color A)

Start with Color A.

High quality

Row 1: Create a Magic Ring (MR). Ch 2 (does not count as a stitch). Work 12 hdc into the MR. Join with a sl st to the first hdc. (12 hdc)

  • Pull the MR tight to close. This forms the center of your flower.

Row 2 (Petals): Sl st into the next hdc. [Ch 2, 1 dc, 1 tr, 1 dc, ch 2, sl st] all into the same hdc. Sl st into the next hdc. Repeat from * to * around the entire ring. You will create 6 petals.

  • This creates the main petals of your flower. The sl st between petals helps define them.

  1. Weave in all ends: Use your tapestry needle to neatly weave in any loose yarn tails from the flower and leaves.
  2. Attach Leaves: Position the two leaves at the back of your flower, slightly overlapping at the base. Use your tapestry needle and the yarn tails from the leaves (or a new piece of green yarn) to securely sew them to the back of the flower.
  3. Shape: Gently shape your flower and leaves to make them look full and symmetrical.

Versatile Uses for Your Crochet Flower & Leaves:

  • Appliqué: Sew onto baby blankets, hats, scarves, headbands, bags, or clothing.
  • Home Decor: Attach to baskets, dishcloths, rugs, or decorative pillows.
  • Gift Embellishment: Tie onto gifts instead of a traditional bow.
  • Hair Accessories: Glue or sew onto hair clips or elastic hair ties.
  • Jewelry: Create earrings or a pendant with smaller versions.

Customization & Tips:

  • Size Adjustment:
    • Larger Flower: Use a thicker yarn (e.g., worsted weight) and a larger hook (e.g., H/5.0 mm). You can also increase the initial hdc count in Row 1 (e.g., 14 hdc) and adjust the stitches in the petals accordingly (e.g., ch 2, 2 dc, 1 tr, 2 dc, ch 2, sl st).
    • Smaller Flower: Use a finer yarn (e.g., fingering or lace weight) and a smaller hook (e.g., 1.5 mm or 2.0 mm). Reduce the initial hdc count (e.g., 10 hdc) and adjust petal stitches (e.g., ch 2, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, ch 2, sl st).
    • Leaves: Adjust the initial chain length for longer/shorter leaves, and modify the stitches (sc, hdc, dc) to make them wider or narrower.
  • Petal Variations: Experiment with different stitch combinations within the petals for varied textures (e.g., all dc, or a mix of sc/hdc/dc/tr).
  • Center Embellishment: Sew a small button, bead, or a tiny embroidered French knot to the center of the flower for extra flair.
  • Color Play: Use variegated yarn for a multi-toned flower, or create a flower with a different color for each petal!

Enjoy creating these quick, cute, and versatile crochet flowers with leaves! They’re a fantastic way to add a touch of handmade beauty to anything.
