Crochet a Vibrant Two-Tone Doily: Free Pattern

Hello, crochet enthusiasts!

There’s something incredibly satisfying about creating a beautiful piece of home decor with your own hands. Doilies, with their intricate patterns and delicate charm, are perfect for adding a touch of elegance to any room.

Today, I’m excited to share a free crochet pattern for this charming two-tone doily, featuring a bold central color and a striking contrasting edge. This design is perfect for beginners looking to try a more involved project, or for experienced crocheters wanting a quick and satisfying make. The one pictured uses a beautiful hot pink and a deep green – what colors will you choose?

This pattern is written in US crochet terms.

Skill Level: Intermediate (familiarity with basic crochet stitches and working in the round, including color changes, is helpful)

Materials You’ll Need:

  • Yarn: Dk (light worsted) or sport weight yarn in two contrasting colors. Cotton yarn is ideal for doilies as it blocks well and provides good stitch definition.
    • Color A (Main Color): E.g., Bright Pink
    • Color B (Contrast Color): E.g., Dark Green
  • Crochet Hook: A hook size appropriate for your chosen yarn. For DK yarn, a 3.5mm (E) or 4.0mm (G) hook is usually a good starting point. Adjust as needed to achieve your desired drape and stitch density.
  • Yarn Needle: For weaving in ends.
  • Scissors
  • (Optional) Stitch Marker: Helpful for marking the beginning of rounds.

Abbreviations (US Terms):

  • ch: chain
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • sc: single crochet
  • dc: double crochet
  • st(s): stitch(es)
  • sp: space
  • ch-sp: chain space
  • rep: repeat
  • FO: fasten off
  • MC: Main Color (Color A)
  • CC: Contrast Color (Color B)

Finishing:

  1. Fasten off and weave in all loose ends securely.
  2. Blocking is essential! To open up the lace pattern and give your doily a professional, crisp finish, wet your doily thoroughly (you can gently wash it or spray it with water). Gently squeeze out excess water, then pin it to a foam blocking mat or a clean towel in the desired shape, stretching the points and edges evenly. Let it dry completely.

I hope you enjoy making this beautiful two-tone doily! It’s a truly rewarding project that results in a charming piece of art for your home.
