The Pattern
We’ll start by making the sole, then work up the sides, shape the toe, and add a simple cuff.
Making the Sole:
We’ll work the sole in rounds, increasing at the ends to create an oval shape.
Rnd 1: Ch 9. hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next 6 chs, 5 hdc in the last ch. Working up the other side of the chain: hdc in next 6 chs, 2 hdc in the very first ch (the one you worked the first hdc into). Join with a sl st to the first hdc of the round. (20 sts)
Rnd 2: Ch 1 (does NOT count as a st here and throughout), 2 hdc in the same st, 2 hdc in the next st, hdc in next 6 sts, 2 hdc in next 5 sts, hdc in next 6 sts, 2 hdc in last 2 sts. Join with a sl st to the first hdc. (30 sts)

Making the Body (Sides):
Now we’ll work rounds without increases to bring the sides of the bootie up.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, hdc in the BLO of each st around. Join with a sl st to the first hdc. (30 sts) Working in the BLO for this round creates a nice defined edge for the sole.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, hdc in each st around. Join with a sl st to the first hdc. (30 sts)
Shaping the Toe:
We’ll add some decreases across the front of the bootie to shape the toe.
Rnd 5: Ch 1, hdc in first 9 sts, hdc2tog over next 2 sts 6 times, hdc in last 9 sts. Join with a sl st to the first hdc. (24 sts)
Rnd 6: Ch 1, hdc in first 8 sts, hdc2tog over next 2 sts 4 times, hdc in last 8 sts. Join with a sl st to the first hdc. (20 sts)

Adding the Cuff:
We’ll finish the top edge with a few simple rounds.
Rnd 7: Ch 1, hdc in each st around. Join with a sl st to the first hdc. (20 sts)
Rnd 8: Ch 1, hdc in each st around. Join with a sl st to the first hdc. (20 sts)
Fasten off, leaving a tail for weaving in.
Finishing

- Weave in all loose ends neatly using your tapestry needle.
- Make a second bootie the exact same way.
Optional Ties:
To add ties, chain approximately 40-50 stitches (or desired length). Fasten off. Thread the chain through the stitches around the ankle/cuff area (like lacing up a shoe). You can weave it through Rnd 7 or 8. Repeat for the second bootie. Alternatively, you can crochet an I-cord or a flat strap to thread through.
And there you have it! An adorable pair of handmade crochet baby booties, perfect for keeping tiny feet warm.
These booties are quick to make, making them ideal for last-minute gifts or using up yarn scraps. Experiment with different colors and yarn types (like fuzzy or variegated yarns) to create unique looks.
Happy Crocheting!
