
Detailed Baby Crochet Boots Pattern
This pattern will guide you through crocheting a sweet and functional pair of baby boots (booties).
Skill Level: Intermediate
Size: 3-6 Months (approx. 4 – 4.25 inches sole length)
Note: To adjust the size, modify the starting chain length for the sole and the number of increase rounds in the sole. Adjust the number of rounds for the leg portion for a taller or shorter boot.
Materials:
- Approximately 80-120 yards of DK weight yarn in your main color.
- Small amount of contrasting yarn for trim or strap (optional).
- Crochet hook size E/4 (3.5 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends and assembly.
- Scissors
- Stitch marker (optional, but helpful)
- Two buttons (approx. 0.5 – 0.75 inch diameter) if adding straps.
Gauge:
18 hdc stitches and 14 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in hdc.
Checking your gauge is important to get the correct size.
Abbreviations:
- ch: chain
- st(s): stitch(es)
- sl st: slip stitch
- sc: single crochet
- hdc: half double crochet
- dc: double crochet
- inc: increase (work 2 hdc in the same stitch)
- dec: decrease (hdc2tog – half double crochet 2 stitches together)
- FO: Fasten off
- BLO: Back loop only
- FLO: Front loop only
Notes:
- The sole is worked in the round.
- The upper and leg of the boot are worked in rounds, joining with a sl st at the end of most rounds.

Make 2 (for a pair)
Part 1: The Sole
We will start by creating an oval sole.
Round 1: Ch 13. Hdc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in the next 10 chs. 3 hdc in the last ch. Now working on the opposite side of the starting chain, hdc in the next 10 chs. 2 hdc in the last ch. Join with a sl st to the first hdc. (26 hdc)
Round 2: Ch 1 (does not count as a st). Inc in the first st. Hdc in the next 10 sts. Inc in the next 3 sts. Hdc in the next 10 sts. Inc in the next 2 sts. Join with a sl st to the first hdc. (32 hdc)
Round 3: Ch 1 (does not count as a st). Hdc in the first st. Inc in the next st. Hdc in the next 10 sts. (Hdc in next st, inc in next st) 3 times. Hdc in the next 10 sts. (Hdc in next st, inc in next st) 2 times. Join with a sl st to the first hdc. (38 hdc)
Round 4: Ch 1 (does not count as a st). Hdc in BLO in each st around. Join with a sl st to the first hdc. (38 hdc)
Working in the back loop only for this round creates the base for the upper.
Part 2: Building the Sides and Shaping the Foot
Now we will build up the sides of the bootie and shape the front.
Round 5: Ch 1 (does not count as a st). Hdc in each st around. Join with a sl st to the first hdc. (38 hdc)
Round 6: Ch 1 (does not count as a st). Hdc in the first 11 sts. Dec 8 times. Hdc in the last 11 sts. Join with a sl st to the first hdc. (30 hdc)
Round 7: Ch 1 (does not count as a st). Hdc in the first 9 sts. Dec 6 times. Hdc in the last 9 sts. Join with a sl st to the first hdc. (24 hdc)
Round 8: Ch 1 (does not count as a st). Hdc in the first 8 sts. Dec 4 times. Hdc in the last 8 sts. Join with a sl st to the first hdc. (20 hdc)

Part 3: Building the Leg of the Boot
Now we will work straight up to create the ankle and leg portion.
Round 9: Ch 1 (does not count as a st). Hdc in each st around. Join with a sl st to the first hdc. (20 hdc)
Rounds 10-14: Repeat Round 9. (20 hdc per round)
Note: Work more or fewer rounds here for a taller or shorter boot leg.
Part 4: The Cuff/Top Edge
We will add a simple finishing edge.
Round 15: Ch 1 (does not count as a st). Sc in each st around. Join with a sl st to the first sc. (20 sc)
FO and weave in ends securely.
Part 5: Optional Button Strap
Make 2 (one for each boot)
Using main color or contrasting yarn:
Ch 11. Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in the next 8 chs. Ch 2 (buttonhole). Skip the next ch. Sc in the last ch. (9 sc and 1 buttonhole)
FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Assembly:
- Weave in all ends on the boot.
- If adding a button strap, position the straight end of the strap on the outside of the boot, near the top edge on one side (opposite the side where the button will be placed). Sew the strap securely in place.
- Using the contrasting yarn or a piece of the main yarn, sew a button onto the outside of the boot, on the opposite side of the strap, aligning it so the button fits through the buttonhole on the strap.
- Repeat all steps to make the second boot. Ensure the strap and button are placed on the opposite sides for the left and right boots.
Your baby crochet boots are now complete!
