Easy Crochet Baby Shoe Pattern

This pattern creates a simple and comfortable little bootie for a baby.

Skill Level: Easy

Size: Approximately 3.5 – 4 inches sole length (fits roughly 0-6 months)

Note: To adjust the size, you will primarily change the number of stitches in the initial chain for the sole and potentially the number of rounds for the upper.

Materials:

  • DK weight yarn (approximately 50-70 yards per pair) – Choose soft yarn suitable for babies.
  • Crochet hook size E/4 (3.5 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
  • Scissors
  • Stitch marker (optional)

Gauge:

18 hdc stitches and 14 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in hdc.

Note: Checking your gauge will help ensure the finished size is as expected.

Abbreviations:

  • ch: chain
  • st(s): stitch(es)
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • sc: single crochet

Pattern Instructions:

Make 2 (for a pair)

Part 1: The Sole

We will start by creating a simple oval sole.

Round 2: Ch 1 (does not count as a st). Inc in the first st. Hdc in the next 6 sts. Inc in the next 3 sts. Hdc in the next 6 sts. Inc in the next 2 sts. Join with a sl st to the first hdc. (24 hdc)

Working in the back loop only for this round creates a slight ridge, making it easier to work the upper into.

Part 2: The Upper

Now we will build up the sides and shape the toe slightly.

Round 4: Ch 1 (does not count as a st). Hdc in each st around. Join with a sl st to the first hdc. (24 hdc)

Round 5: Ch 1 (does not count as a st). Hdc in the first 8 sts. Dec 4 times. Hdc in the last 8 sts. Join with a sl st to the first hdc. (20 hdc)

Round 6: Ch 1 (does not count as a st). Hdc in the first 6 sts. Dec 4 times. Hdc in the last 6 sts. Join with a sl st to the first hdc. (16 hdc)

Part 3: The Ankle/Cuff

This creates the opening for the foot.

Round 7: Ch 1 (does not count as a st). Sc in each st around. Join with a sl st to the first sc. (16 sc)

Round 8: Ch 1 (does not count as a st). Sc in each st around. Join with a sl st to the first sc. (16 sc)
