Skill Level: Intermediate
Materials:
- Worsted weight yarn in desired color(s)
- Crochet hook size US E/4 (3.5 mm)
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- Stitch markers (optional but recommended)
- Buttons or other embellishments (optional)
Gauge:
- Gauge is not critical for this project, but approximately 5 single crochet (sc) stitches and 5 rows should measure 1 inch.
Abbreviations:
- ch – chain
- sc – single crochet Â
- hdc – half double crochet Â
- dc – double crochet Â
- st(s) – stitch(es) Â
- sl st – slip stitch Â
- inc – increase (2 sc in the same st) Â
- dec – decrease (sc two sts together) Â

Special Stitches:
- Magic Ring: Create a loop, then work the first round of stitches into this loop. Pull the tail to tighten.
- Invisible Decrease: Insert hook in front loop only of first stitch, then insert hook into front loop only of next stitch. Yarn over and pull through both loops. Yarn over and pull through last two loops on hook.
Pattern:
Sole:
- Round 1: Start with a magic ring. Sc 6 into the ring. (6 sts)
- Round 2: Inc in each st around. (12 sts)
- Round 3: (Sc in next st, inc) repeat 6 times. (18 sts)
- Round 4: (Sc in next 2 sts, inc) repeat 6 times. (24 sts)
- Round 5: (Sc in next 3 sts, inc) repeat 6 times. (30 sts)
- Round 6: Sc in each st around. (30 sts)
- For a larger sole, continue increasing by adding one more sc between increases in each round. For example, Round 7 would be (Sc in next 4 sts, inc) repeat 6 times.

Upper:
- Round 7: Working in the back loops only, sc in each st around. (30 sts)
- Round 8: Sc in next 20 sts, dec, sc in next 8 sts. (29 sts)
- Round 9: Sc in next 19 sts, dec, sc in next 8 sts. (28 sts)
- Round 10: Sc in next 18 sts, dec, sc in next 8 sts. (27 sts)
- Round 11: Sc in next 17 sts, dec, sc in next 8 sts. (26 sts)
- Round 12: Sc in next 16 sts, dec, sc in next 8 sts. (25 sts)
- The decrease rounds shape the shoe’s upper. Adjust the number of decreases to fit your desired shape.
Instep:
- Round 13: Sc in next 9 sts. Turn. (9 sts)
- Rows 14-18: Sc in each st across. Turn. (9 sts)
- These rows create the instep flap. Adjust the number of rows for desired length.
- Round 19: Ch 1, sc in the next 9 sts, sc evenly along the side of the instep flap (5 sts), sc in the next 6 sts of the front part of the shoe, sc evenly along the other side of the instep flap (5 sts), sc in the remaining sts of the round (10 sts). (35 sts)

Ankle Cuff:
- Round 20: Sc in each st around. (35 sts)
- Round 21: (Hdc, dc) in each st around. (70 sts)
- This round creates a decorative, stretchy cuff. You can modify this round or add more rounds for a different look.
- Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Finishing:
- Seam (Optional): If there’s a noticeable gap at the back of the heel, use the yarn needle and tail to sew it closed.
- Weave in all loose ends securely.
- Embellish: Sew on buttons, ribbons, or other decorations to the instep flap or around the ankle cuff.

Variations:
- Color Changes: Change colors at different rounds or rows to create stripes or color blocking.
- Stitch Patterns: Use different crochet stitches for the upper or cuff, such as half double crochet, double crochet, or shell stitch.
- ã¹ãã©ãã: For a Mary Jane style shoe, add a strap across the instep with a button closure.
- Bootie Height: Make the shoe taller by adding more rounds to the upper.
- Sole Size: To make the shoe bigger, add more increase rounds to the sole.
