Pattern Instructions: The Bootie (Make 2)

We will start by creating the sole, then work up the sides, and finally add the cuff.

High quality

Part 1: The Sole (MC Yarn)

The sole is worked in continuous oval rounds. Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of each round.

Foundation Chain: Ch 13.

Round 1: Hdc in the 3rd ch from the hook (counts as first hdc). Hdc in the next 9 chs. Work 5 hdc in the last ch. (This turns the corner). Now working on the other side of the foundation chain, hdc in the next 9 chs. Work 4 hdc in the last ch (same ch as first hdc). Sl st to the top of the beginning ch 2 to join. (28 hdc total).

Round 2: Ch 2 (counts as first hdc). Hdc in the same st. Hdc in the next 9 sts. Inc in the next 5 sts. Hdc in the next 9 sts. Inc in the next 4 sts. Sl st to the top of the beginning ch 2. (38 hdc total).

Round 3: Ch 2. Hdc in the same st. Hdc in the next 10 sts. (Hdc, inc) 5 times. Hdc in the next 10 sts. (Hdc, inc) 4 times. Sl st to the top of the beginning ch 2. (48 hdc total).

F.O. Main Color. Weave in end.

Part 2: The Body (MC Yarn – Textured Sides)

We will work the sides in joined rounds, but for the textured look, we’ll work into the 3rd loop of hdc stitches.

High quality

Round 1 (Set up for Body): Join MC yarn with a sl st to the 3rd loop of any hdc stitch on the previous sole round. Ch 2 (counts as first hdc). Hdc in the 3rd loop of each hdc around. Sl st to the top of the beginning ch 2. (48 hdc). * Working in the 3rd loop pushes the regular ‘V’ of the stitch outwards, creating a neat ridge around the sole.

Round 2 (Textured Ribbed Layer): Ch 2 (counts as first hdc). Hdc in the 3rd loop of each hdc around. Sl st to the top of the beginning ch 2. (48 hdc).

Round 3 (Textured Ribbed Layer): Repeat Round 2.

Round 4 (Toe Shaping – Front): Ch 2. Hdc in the next 10 sts. Hdc2tog 8 times. Hdc in the remaining 12 sts. Sl st to the top of the beginning ch 2. (40 hdc). * Place stitch markers at the beginning and end of your hdc2tog section to ensure it’s centered over the toe.

Round 5 (Toe Shaping – Second Decrease): Ch 2. Hdc in the next 10 sts. Hdc2tog 4 times. Hdc in the remaining 12 sts. Sl st to the top of the beginning ch 2. (36 hdc).

F.O. Main Color. Weave in end.

Part 3: The Cuff (CC Yarn – Smooth)

Join Contrast Color (CC) yarn (e.g., Blue) at the back heel, on the right side of the bootie.

High quality

Round 1: Ch 1 (does not count as st). Sc in each st around. Sl st to the first sc. (36 sc).

Round 2: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Sl st to the first sc. (36 sc).

Round 3: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. Sl st to the first sc. (36 sc).

Round 4 (Optional Picot Edge): Ch 1. Sc in the first st. (Ch 3, sl st into the 3rd ch from hook – creates a picot). Sc in the next 2 sts. Repeat from * to * around. Sl st to the first sc. * Alternatively, for a simpler edge, just repeat Round 3 or work a final sl st round.

F.O. Weave in all remaining ends securely.
