Easy 3D Crochet Square Pattern

This pattern creates a simple 3D effect using basic crochet stitches.
Materials:
- Yarn (medium weight recommended)
- Crochet hook (size appropriate for your yarn)
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
Abbreviations:
- ch: chain
- sc: single crochet
- dc: double crochet
- sl st: slip stitch

Pattern:
Base Square:
Round 1: Ch 4, sl st in first ch to form a ring. Round 2: Ch 2 (counts as first dc), 11 dc in ring, sl st in top of beginning ch 2. (12 dc) Round 3: Ch 1, 2 sc in next dc. Repeat from * to * around, sl st in first sc. (24 sc) Round 4: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, sl st in first sc. (24 sc)
Creating the 3D Effect:
Round 5: Ch 1, sc in first sc. Ch 3, skip next sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * to * around. Sl st in first sc. (12 ch-3 loops and 12 sc) Round 6: Sl st into first ch-3 loop. Ch 1, In ch-3 loop work (sc, dc, sc). Sc in next sc. Repeat from * to * around. Sl st in first sc.

Finishing:
- Fasten off and weave in all ends.
- Block the square if desired.

Explanation:
The 3D effect is created in Round 6. The ch-3 loops from Round 5 become the “raised” sections of the square when you work the (sc, dc, sc) combination into them. The sc between the ch-3 loops keeps the square flat between the raised areas.
