Bee Body:

  7. Round 7: Change to black yarn. Ch 1, sc in next 4 st, 2 sc in next st, repeat around, sl st to join. (36 sc)
  8. Round 8: Change to Yellow yarn. Ch 1, sc in each stitch around, sl st to join.
  9. Fasten off the yellow and black yarn.

Wings (Make 2):

  1. With white yarn, ch 4.
  2. In the second ch from hook, hdc. In the next ch, dc. In the last ch, hdc.
  3. Ch 1, turn.
  4. sc, dc, sc.
  5. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Antenna (Make 2):

  1. With black yarn, ch 6.
  2. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Assembling the Bee:

  1. Sew the wings to the back of the bee body.
  2. Sew the antenna to the top of the bee body.
  3. Optional: Sew or glue small black beads for eyes.

Crochet Square:

  1. With your background color yarn, ch a number that will allow you to create a square of the desired size. For example ch 30.
  2. Sc in the second ch from hook, and in each ch across.
  3. Ch 1, turn. Sc in each sc across.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you have a square.
  5. Place the bee in the center of the square.
  6. Using your background color yarn, crochet around the edge of the square, incorporating the bee into the edge by crocheting over the outer edges of the bee as you go. You can also sew the bee into place.
  7. Continue to crochet around the square, adding rounds as desired to increase the size or add a border.
  8. Finish with a final round of sc or your preferred border stitch.
  9. Fasten off and weave in all ends.
  10. Block your square to ensure it lays flat.
