Materials you’ll need:

Instructions:

  1. Begin with a slipknot and chain 4. Join with a slip stitch to form a ring.

  3. Work 3 double crochets into the ring, chain 2. Repeat * to * two more times, creating a total of four clusters separated by chain-2 spaces. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the initial chain-3 to close the round.
  4. Round 2: Slip stitch into the next two stitches and into the corner space. Chain 3 (counts as your first double crochet) and work 2 more double crochets in the same corner space. This forms a corner.
  5. Chain 1. In the next chain-2 space, work 3 double crochets, chain 2, 3 double crochets (corner made). Chain 1.
  6. Repeat * to * in the remaining three chain-2 spaces to create corners, each separated by chain-1 spaces.
  7. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the initial chain-3 to close the round.
  8. Round 3: Slip stitch into the next two stitches and into the corner space. Chain 3 (counts as your first double crochet) and work 2 more double crochets in the same corner space. Chain 1.
  9. In the next chain-1 space, work 3 double crochets. Chain 1.
  10. In the corner chain-2 space, work 3 double crochets, chain 2, 3 double crochets (corner made). Chain 1.
  11. In the next chain-1 space, work 3 double crochets. Chain 1.
  12. Repeat * to * in the remaining three corners to create corners, each separated by chain-1 spaces.
  13. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the initial chain-3 to close the round.

Repeat Round 3 or add more rounds as desired to make your square motif as large as you like. You can experiment with different colors, stitch patterns, or even add embellishments like beads or appliques to make it even more gorgeous.
